A Sunshine moonlight cinema is one option on the table for land owned by Brimbank council at the former Sunvale Primary School.
A basketball half court, table tennis, a kitchen garden, playground and a Sunvale history themed privately-run cafe are ideas revealed in a Brimbank council preliminary masterplan, following community consultation.
A majority of residents surveyed wanted to see the former school used for ball games, a skate facility and general open space for jogging, walking and cycling.
The council bought the 1.1 hectare section of the park last March for $3.025 million.
Residents also suggested the park could be used as a community hub involving a moonlight cinema, markets and festivals, plus an indigenous themed shared trail.
No trees are expected to be removed.
The state government has been in negotiations with a developer to buy back a separate section of land at the school after a proposed 60-unit development was rejected by VCAT.
It was revealed during the hearing by the Environment Protection Authority that groundwater at the former school was contaminated.
Director City Development Stuart Menzies said there was currently no EPA requirement for an environmental audit of the land proposed for a public park.
