Monmia Primary School pupils have a new place to play, two years after they began their fundraising efforts.

Last week the Keilor Downs school’s new playground was unveiled in front of excited pupils, teachers and parents. Assistant principal Lucia Vorpasso said it is a welcome addition to the schoolyard.

“We have [another] playground, but we don’t have one with ropes,” she said. “This allows children to be a bit more experimental.”

The school also unveiled its new buddy bench, donated by Keilor Rotary.

“If someone is feeling a little bit lonely and doesn’t have a friend to play with, they can go and sit on the bench and anyone who is near the chair will join them or ask them to play their game,” Ms Vorpasso said.

The school community raised about $30,000 to install the playground.

Ms Vorpasso said donations from local businesses had been crucial to the school’s fundraising efforts.
