Monmia Primary School is encouraging its community to “be you”.

Be You is a Beyond Blue program which aims to provide educators with knowledge, resources and strategies to help children and young people achieve their best possible mental health.

Monmia was the first school in the country registered to the program and to celebrate, representatives of the organisation last week presented the school with special signage.

Monmia Primary School assistant principal for student engagement and wellbeing Lucy Vorpasso said it was a major day for the school, which also celebrated the opening of its new library.

“It was a massive day for the whole school,” she said. “We kicked it off with the visit from Beyond Blue in the morning, then launched straight into the opening of our new library, which looks absolutely amazing – we’ve had a lot of comments on it already.”

The school has a long history of leading the way in mental health initiatives and was also one of the first to sign up to Beyond Blue’s previous program for educators – Kids Matter.
