Melanie steps it up

Melanie Bugeja is putting one foot in front of the other for a cause.

The Caroline Springs kindergarten teacher is lacing up for Run for the Kids for the fifth time, helping to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal by taking part in the 15-kilometre event on March 18.

Ms Bugeja has taught at Creekside College Kindergarten for the past nine years, and said it was working with sick children that kept her coming back to do the run each year.

“I have worked with children who have cerebral palsy, leukemia, muscular dystrophy, severe allergies that are life threatening and asthma,” Ms Bugeja said.

“I have learnt a lot from these disabilities and illnesses and its very heart-breaking for both the child and their families.”

Ms Bugeja said she hoped several families from the kindergarten would join her.

“Being a part of this event and running with so many thousands of people has been truly amazing over the years and has blown me away with the number of dedicated participants,” she said.

“I like to get as many families and children involved in taking part in the walk or run or simply just giving a donation to the Good Friday appeal.”
