Maria raises a glass for her 103rd birthday

Two centenarians in the one family is pretty rare, but Keilor’s Maria Feriancic can only salute her younger sister’s milestone from afar.

Ms Feriancic, a resident at Rosary Homes for the Aged for two years, celebrated her 103rd birthday with friends last Wednesday morning.

Her sister, who lives in a nursing home in Slovenia, will turn 102 in April.

Maria, the third-eldest of 10 children, never married. She moved to Sunshine North to join her brother, Ivan, in the late ’60s and worked at a textile printing company in Tottenham.

Long-time close friend Maria Grazia said the keen church-goer, who loves cooking, is “all class – she’s just a real lady. Sadly, Ivan is not alive any more; he only made it to 86”.

Ms Feriancic’s milestone follows that of Sunshine’s Percy ‘Joff’ Scott, who was 100 last October; Sydenham’s Mollly Mullins, who brought up the ton last December; and Sunshine’s Joe Wise, who was 100 in August, 2014.
