Man wanted in relation to Albanvale death shot by police


A man wanted for questioning in relation to the death of a man in Albanvale on June 25 has been injured in a police shooting.

Police said the 64-year-old Broadmeadows man was spotted driving on Newlands Road, Coburg North, about 4.40pm on June 27.

It’s believed the man saw the police and took off in his vehicle with police in pursuit.

The man then confronted detectives with a screwdriver and an officer discharged their firearm, shooting the man.

He man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Armed Crime Squad detectives will investigate the incident which will be oversighted by Professional Standards Command, as per normal procedure when a police firearm is discharged.
