Man stabbed during aggravated burglary

A 50-year-old Cairnlea man was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds after anĀ  aggravated burglary and assault last night.

Investigators believe four males wearing balaclavas forced their way into a Station Road property about 2.50am.

The man was woken by the intruders and a scuffle ensued.

He sustained a number of stab wounds and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A 33-year-old woman and three children, aged 17, 16 and five, were also home at the time, but were not physically injured.

The offenders are believed to have fled south on Station Road in a white Holden Commodore station wagon.
