Man saved from house fire

A man was saved from a Sunshine North house fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a house fire on Berkshire Road about 1.25pm, just four minutes after being called.

FRV crews found heavy smoke issuing from a single storey weatherboard house.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the burning home and located a resident at the rear of the property.

The male occupant stated that he had fallen asleep and believed there were other people inside the house.

Firefighters immediately conducted a secondary search and were able to confirm no other occupants were inside the home.

The unaccounted for residents were later located at a nearby shopping centre.

The male patient was transported to hospital by Ambulance Victoria suffering smoke inhalation.

The fire was declared under control at 1.56pm.

The rear half of the home has suffered extensive damage in the blaze.

The fire started from a burning candle.
