A man has died after being struck by a car in Deer Park early Wednesday morning.

Police said the man was parked in the emergency lane of the Western Ring Road changing his tyre when he was struck by a car about 1am.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died.

The driver of the other car, a 35-year-old Kings Park man, was not injured and stopped at the scene.

He has been arrested and is assisting investigators with their enquiries.

The M80 Ring Road is closed Greensborough-bound between the Deer Park Bypass and Ballarat Road.
