Man dies in custody

A man died in police custody at Sunshine police station yesterday.

The 43-year-old Sunshine man was taken into custody on Tuesday and was remanded to appear in court on Thursday.

He was found unresponsive when police custody officers conducted routine checks about 11pm on Wednesday night.

Paramedics were immediately called, and officers commenced CPR. Paramedics were unable to revive the man and he died a short time later.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the death, with oversight from Professional Standards Command.
