Man arrested after St Albans shooting

Sunshine Hospital and its surrounding streets were in lockdown last night after a 42-year-old woman was dumped at the hospital with fatal gunshot wounds just after 9pm.
Police believe the woman’s killer was later involved in a carjacking and multiple crashes in nearby Furlong Road.

A man was arrested last night and is today helping police with their inquiries.

At a press conference this morning, Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said the woman was shot at a St Albans property and then driven to Sunshine Hospital by her suspected attacker.

“We believe the two are known to each other and were in a relatively new relationship.”

Detective Inspector Hughes said police attending the hospital noticed a man covered in blood.

“Police followed the man after he left the hospital … he’s then been involved in two motor vehicle accidents.

“He’s … hijacked the second vehicle he’s crashed with, which police were able to intercept and arrest him.”

The drivers of the two cars involved in the accidents were taken to hospital but have since been released with no serious injuries.

Police are yet to lay any charges.

Investigations are continuing.
