The Brimbank Council wants the Victorian Government to help it assess a maligned stretch of road in St Albans.

At a recent meeting Cr Duyen Anh Pham requested that the council write to the governemnt requesting an urgent assessment of pedestrian and road safety along Main Road East, St Albans.

The stretch of road in question is between St Albans Road and Stradbroke Drive.

The motion also called for the implementation of safety treatments to address any identified issues.

Cr Pham said community concerns had prompted her motion.

“There are a number of pedestrian and road safety concerns and Main Road East, Cr Pham said.

“In particular, concerns have been raised with the entrance and exit of Woolworths carpark, where many near misses occur.

Not withstanding Woolworths has undertaken a number of road safety initiatives, there are still concerns.”

Cr Pham said that a mix of speed zones along the stretch added to the confusion.

“There’s a speed zone issue… there’s a short 60km speed zone stretch between the 40km speed zone at the shopping centre stretch.”

Cr Pham urged the government to consider making the entire stretch of road a 40km speed limit to ensure uniformity.
