Massive crowd expected for Lunar Festival

A bevy of food, entertainment and a spectacular fireworks show are set to take over the streets of St Albans next year.

St Albans Lunar Festival representative Ross Morfea said planning for the town’s biggest event was in its final stages.

“This is the biggest event St Albans has, we can get around the 70,000-mark in terms of attendance, so it’s just massive,” he said.

“We’ve been planning for about six months. It’s a massive undertaking, but I just love it.”

Mr Morfea said the most pleasing aspect of the festival is the coming together of different nationalities.

“I’ve been doing this for quite a while now and the thing that I like the most is seeing how many different nationalities come out to enjoy the day.

“The coming together of cultures is something that’s really come a long way over the years.”

While there’s the parade, food and rides to enjoy throughout the day, Mr Morfea said it’s hard to go past the fireworks display when searching for a highlight.

“The fireworks display is so big that it can be seen as far away as Rockbank,” he said.

Mr Morfea said the festival has become a family event.

“There’s a bit of something for everyone, but one thing I’ve noticed is that we get a lot of families coming down, which is always good.”

The St Albans Lunar Festival will take place in Alfrieda Street on Sunday, January 14.
