A new festival celebrating the Lunar New Year will take place in Sunshine early next month.

The Sunshine Lunar New Year Festival or Tét Festival will be the first-ever staged in Sunshine and will bring together the culturally diverse community in a safe and fun environment.

The festival will include a huge day of free family fun, live entertainment, children’s rides, street performers, music, dancing, street food, face-painting, magical lion and dragon dancing, red-pockets and firecrackers, ending with spectacular fireworks.

A large performance stage with seating area will burst with exciting musical acts and dance groups.

The festival will also feature the fastest Pho and Bánh mì eating competitions and while red-pockets with money and business vouchers will be given out across the day.

Sunshine Business Association president Vu Du said the association team are giddy with excitement to present their first Lunar Festival.

“Sunshine and the greater Melbourne have been longing for more events and like our previous festivals held,” he said.

“Join us for a free full day family friendly outdoor event and enjoy the diverse range of delicious food, family activities and giveaways.

“Let’s welcome the year of the Tiger. In Vietnamese tradition, the Tiger represents respect, courage and being energetic – principles that we could all use in light of the past few years”.

The festival is on February 6 in the Sunshine Shopping precinct along Hampshire Road between noon and 9pm.
