Kids can kick off the second week of the school holidays with judo lessons.
The Tin Shed, also known as St Albans youth community centre, runs a martial arts program on Tuesdays and Thursdays for primary school aged children – just one of a number of programs on now to keep kids active these holidays.
Co-ordinator Elfie Haggblom says the programs offer plenty of opportunities for youngsters to learn new skills and make friends.
“St Albans community youth club has been involved in community activity for more than 50 years,” she says.
“It is a community recreation, social advocacy and welfare centre for the needs of a multi-ethnic community.
“We provide an opportunity for people of different ages, interests and backgrounds to come together to help each other, and to take joint action on common problems.”
Tin Shed activities include aerobics, art classes, craft classes, creative drama, dancing, discussion group, gymnastics, table tennis, tai chi and yoga.
The Tin Shed, which is used by about 1000 people every week, is jointly funded by the Department of Human Services and Brimbank council.
