A set of traffic lights at the corner of Wright Street and Anderson Road, Sunshine are fast becoming Brimbank’s version of the Montague Street bridge.

The lights have been struck by vehicles on multiple occasions over the past few years.

VicRoads did not provide specific figures as to how many times the lights have been struck by vehicles, but said it received reports of 32 faults involving the lights between January 2014 and February 2020.

Faults can include the signals being struck by a vehicle or another object, broken light globes or interruptions to the power supply.

A replacement set of lights were put in place as a temporary measure.

The smaller lights were hooked up to a neighbouring set of lights via a power chord and have a small support base at the bottom.

Residents say the replacement lights have also been struck by vehicles multiple times.

In one photo, the replacement lights can be seen lying flat across the pavement, while in another they’re facing the wrong way after seemingly being struck by a vehicle.

VicRoads said it inspects all traffic lights and pedestrian signals every three months.
