Lights on for sports grounds

Lighting upgrades at three Brimbank sporting fields will go ahead next year, allowing for greater levels of sport and recreation participation.

Brimbank council last week awarded a contract for sports ground lighting upgrade works at Churchill Reserve in St Albans, and Ainsworth and Ralph reserves in Sunshine West.

Brimbank mayor Lucinda Congreve said the three projects would provide substantial improvements to the enjoyment of participants at the venues.

“This project will invest approximately $990,000 in sports ground lighting improvements to soccer pitch No. 3 at Churchill Reserve, the football oval at Ainsworth Reserve, and the soccer pitch at Ralph Reserve,” Cr Congreve said.

“This will increase the grounds’ capacity and will serve the clubs well for training and competition.

“Council expects the lighting upgrades across the three sports reserves will continue to boost participation in sport for people of all ages, abilities and gender.

“This is important work – we know that improvements to sport facilities have a real and measurable impact on participation and levels of physical activity – supporting everyone in our community to live healthy and active lives.

“The lighting upgrade works will provide increased opportunity for sport and recreation and better access for the wider community.”

The upgrades are expected to be completed by early June, 2019.
