Two Albion intersections on Ballarat Road are in line to receive long sought-after traffic lights.
Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said the council had been told by VicRoads that the lights would be included in safety upgrades being proposed for the area.
“Council has been advised by VicRoads that [it] has undertaken an analysis to identify possible road safety improvements on Ballarat Road between the Western Ring Road and the Sunbury railway line, which includes the intersection of Ballarat Road and Perth Avenue,” Cr Giudice said.
“VicRoads has identified Hulett Street and Perth Avenue as priorities for the installation of traffic signals, with Hulett Street being the highest priority within this section of Ballarat Road due to its historical safety record and the relative risks to pedestrians and motorists.
“VicRoads has consulted with council, Brimbank Highway Patrol, Public Transport Victoria and the local MP regarding the proposed safety improvements.”
The installation of lights would end a long-running campaign for a safer crossing at the Perth Avenue-Ballarat Road intersection.
No timeframes for the lights’ installation have been provided, but VicRoads north-west regional director metro north west Vince Punaro is vowing to continue working with the council.
“We’re working closely with Brimbank City Council on potential safety improvements along Ballarat Road,” he said.
