Three notorious level crossings in Brimbank will soon be gone after the state government invested a further $6.6 million towards the removal of 75 crossings by 2025 in its 2019-20 budget.
The crossings at Mt Derrimut Road, Deer Park, Robinsons Road, Deer Park and Fitzgerald Road, Ardeer have all been included on the list of additional level crossing removal sites.
The sites were the subject of a public campaign which resulted in two Brimbank councillors delivering a community petition signed by 3000 locals to the office of the Member for St Albans, Natalie Suleyman, calling for the removal of the level crossings.
Days before last year’s state election Ms Suleyman and Premier Daniel Andrews stood outside the Deer Park Station and promised to remove the crossings if re-elected.
The government also pledged to upgrade the Deer Park train station.
