Students at Keilor Downs College have added colour and flare to their hair, all in the name of charity.
Fifty students from the school took part in the World’s Greatest Shave event last week, with a major event organised by the year 11 VCAL students.
Jason Ngyen helped organise the event and said the participation across the school was incredible.
“To have 50 people either putting colour in or getting braids was really cool,” he said.
“We really wanted to support this cause and this has showcased the school at its best.”
Students were initially going to take the plunge and shave their heads, however the hairdresser they had organised to attend withdrew at late notice.
“We had help with the colouring and braiding, there was no shortage of people ready and willing to take part,” Jason said.
There were plenty of support acts helping to entertain the students throughout their lunch break.
Jason said that while there wasn’t a lot of time to plan the event, a lot of work went into it.
“This took about three weeks to put together and I think it really showed that students at this school actually care about the community,” he said.
“I think events like this one really show us all how we can provide support for people out there who need a bit of help.
“We want to raise as much money as we can for this cause and we’ve set ourselves a pretty high target of $1000.”
