Learner driver blows .324 with kids in car

A 39-year-old learner driver from Cairnlea is facing a series of charges following a minor collision in a supermarket car park in Werribee, including drink driving with an unrestrained toddler in her car.

Her vehicle is believed to have struck another vehicle at the IGA car park on Cottrell Street at around noon on Thursday.

When police arrived, the woman undertook an evidentiary breath test which showed she had a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.324.

First Constable Madeline Gillard said a two-year-old child was found to be unrestrained in the vehicle.

“There was also a four-year-old child in the vehicle, who was the closest thing to a fully licensed supervised driver,” she said.

“Miraculously, no-one was injured and both vehicles received only minor damage, although she won’t be dealing with the damage to her car for at least 30 days – it was immediately impounded and her learner permit instantly cancelled.”

First Constable Gillard said the driver has been served a summons to attend court, and is facing an array of charges, including drink driving, careless driving, unrestrained passenger, and unaccompanied learner.
