Residents will be able to study, play and meet in parkland after Keilor library’s new outdoor learning lounge was officially opened last week.
Brimbank mayor Jasmine Nguyen said the new $300,000 outdoor facility would benefit the community.
“We are thrilled to have such an excellent multi-purpose outdoor space in a beautiful parkland setting that will support a range of learning and recreational activities at Keilor Library,” she said.
“Investment in flexible and accessible infrastructure is a priority to support people as they read, study, learn and meet together in our vibrant community.”
Keilor Library’s outdoor lounge, which has a shaded deck and is accessed through the library, is in the parkland adjacent to the library, at 704B Old Calder Highway, Keilor, and open Monday to Saturday. The lounge’s creation means the library’s space has increased by one-third.
Brimbank Council’s community wellbeing director Lynley Dumble said the lounge had multiple uses.
“This is an inviting area which features recreational seating, study, creative play, recreation and reading areas as well as sensory planting,” she said.
“The sensory garden includes plants, stone and wood features with the existing mature trees as the focal point.”
Ms Nguyen and Niddrie MP Ben Carroll officially opened the lounge last Thursday 27 October. The state government contributed $100,000 towards the lounge.
