More than 200 Brimbank drivers will be a little bit lighter in the pocket following \a two-day road safety blitz by Victoria Police.
Operation Amity saw police enforcing on Victorian roads during the high-risk Australia Day period, with ANPR technology fitted to highway patrol vehicles used to detect disqualified, suspended and unlicensed drivers as well as those driving unregistered vehicles.
Across the state, 2838 offences were recorded across the two days.
In Brimbank there were 181 speeding offences, more than a 10th of those caught across the state.
There were 10 drink drivers, four drug drivers, one other drink-drug offence, nine disqualified drivers, three unlicensed drivers
22 disobeying signs and signals offences, six seatbelt offences, three mobile phone offences, nine unregistered vehicles and six impoundments.
Assistant Commissioner Road Policing, Glenn Weir said it had been a busy end to the peak holiday season.
“Disappointingly, we continue to detect a significant number of motorists flouting the road rules and putting other’s lives at risk – with almost 3000 offences detected in just two days.
“Police patrols have increased on Victorian roads since the end of lockdowns, so motorists should expect to see more police, more often this year. With school resuming next week and more people returning to work now is not the time to be complacent behind the wheel.”
