Landmark report arrives in Brimbank

Locals can now access the landmark findings of the Yoorrook Justice Commission with copies of the final report being distributed to libraries in Brimbank and across the state.

Last month Sydenham MP and then-Minister for Treaty and First Peoples Natalie Hutchins delivered a copy of ‘Yoorrook: Truth Be Told’ to Sydenham Library as part of a statewide rollout that will see the report available at more than 300 library branches across Victoria.

‘Yoorrook: Truth Be Told’ is the official public record of the historical and ongoing injustices experienced by First Peoples in Victoria, and is told from the perspectives of First Peoples.

Ms Hutchins said the report is an invitation for all Victorians to walk together towards justice and healing.

“The Yoorrook Justice Commission was a vital step on our path to Treaty – we’re making sure everyone has the chance to learn and understand the truths that shaped our history,” she said.

The state government said the report documents the strength, resilience and resistance of Aboriginal people, and their unbroken connection to culture and Country for tens of thousands of years.

It draws on evidence gathered during 67 days of public hearings and testimony from more than 250 witnesses.

The Yoorrook Justice Commission was Australia’s first formal truth-telling process, established in 2021 in partnership with the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria.

Its final interim report and final report were tabled in Parliament on 1 July, 2025.

More information about the work and reports of the Yoorrook Justice Commission is available at yoorrook.org.au.
