Brimbank council is aiming to bring forward the development of a number of early years learning centres.
As part of a review into early learning centres in the municipality, the council revised the timeframe for constriction of a number of proposed centres.
The West Sunshine Children’s and Community Centre is now the number one priority, with council looking to bring forward the centre’s construction from 2031-32 to being completed by 2024-25.
Council will also add an additional kindergarten room to take the total to three, to meet future demand.
Dempster Park Children’s and Community Centre has also been brought forward. The current projection for the project was beyond 10 years, but that project should be completed by 2025-26.
Deer Park West Children’s and Community Centre, which was the top priority, is now third on the list of needs.
Centres in Albanvale and Furlong Road round out the five proposed centres. Currently both aren’t set to be constructed for another 10 years
The review also found four facilities require further investigation to determine long-term need because they have low utilisation and are not fit-for-purpose.
These facilities are Deer Park Children’s and Community Centre, Keilor Downs Playgroup, Aycliffe Drive Kindergarten and Barbary Crescent Kindergarten.
Mayor Ranka Rasic said the council was committed to early years education.
Residents are invited to provide feedback on the plan and what centres are needed in Brimbank.
