The future of Keilor Village’s old library building on Kennedy Street will be decided in coming weeks, with community consultation starting soon.
Library services will be moving to the updated former council offices on the Old Calder Highway, once this redevelopment is finished in April.
The redevelopment is also proposed to house other community uses, possibly a neighbourhood centre, an arts hub, a centre for people with disabilities, or a meetings venue.
Meanwhile, the future of the old library will come under the public microscope, with the council identifying this building next to the old courthouse and former shire offices as a possible location for planned activity groups for older people, those with disabilities and people with dementia.
The council has already engaged architects to cost alterations to the old library site for planned activity groups, estimating it would take about $96,000 to retrofit. A retrofit budget of $200,000 will be referred to the council’s 2017-18 budget estimates.
“Brimbank council is yet to make a decision on future uses for the Keilor library site,” community wellbeing director Kath Brackett said. “We are about to commence community consultation and a public expression of interest process, and the information gathered will inform that decision.”
