Keilor stadium on track for October completion

The revamped $6.5 million Keilor Basketball and Netball Stadium is due to be finished by the end of next month.

With an extra three multi-sport courts suitable for basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton, the stadium – featuring a 200-seat grandstand – is expected to attract elite-level training and competitions.

The stadium carpark is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.

Keilor Basketball Association announced in August last year it would contribute $1.2 million over five years to fund the third court.

Brimbank chairman of administrators John Watson said that with almost 4000 affiliated players, the redevelopment would cater for one of the largest sporting associations [basketball] in the west.

“Council and the community are really looking forward to the completion of the extension of the stadium,” Mr Watson said. “We’re almost there.

“There will be three new basketball and netball courts, which are expected to host high-level games.

“We’re expecting the number of basketball and netball games on offer to increase when the new courts are open,” he said.

Mr Watson said the stadium project would help ensure Brimbank met the growing need for sports facilities, with the extra courts creating even more opportunities. “The courts have additional markings for badminton and volleyball, which is expected to increase school use of the stadium during the day.”
