Keilor Primary School is set for a multi-million dollar upgrade.
Staff and students at Keilor will soon get a new school building courtesy of a $2.24 million state government investment as part of the Victorian School Asbestos Removal Program.
Member for Niddrie Ben Carroll visited the school last Friday to make the announcement.
“I can’t wait for this upgrade to Keilor Primary School … we are delivering on the promises we have made to local families to improve education infrastructure in the area,” Mr Carroll said.
“Using modular buildings increases flexibility for schools and reduces the interruptions to students, staff and teaching programs.”
Keilor Primary School principal Aaron Wolaniuk welcomed the news and said the modular building would ensure staff and students have modern facilities.
“We’re absolutely thrilled by the announcement that we will receive $2.24 million as part of this project,” Mr Wolaniuk said.
“The old building, which contained our art room, library and four classrooms has served us well for many years.
“We maintained it the best we could with school community-raised funds, but the time has come for a significant upgrade. The school’s art room and library are busy spaces and we’re very much looking forward to this new, modern building.”
The modular buildings are built off-site and delivered to schools so teaching is not interrupted and on-site safety risks are reduced.
Keilor Primary School will now work with the Victorian School Building Authority to establish a timeline for the work to be carried out, with the project set for completion in the first half of 2018.
