The Keilor Golf Course has invited the community to join the free All Abilities Golf Clinics that will happen over five sessions in March thanks to support from local businesses and Golf Australia.

The program, run by AAA All Abilities PGA-qualified golf professional Scott Wearne, will occur every Thursday in March from 10am.

Wearne has played in golf tournaments all around the world, including the 1998 Calgary Open where he won the competition with a record 22 under par.

Keilor Golf Course Centre Manager Jack McDonald said it was a great opportunity for people in the community to come and give golf a try.

“It’s all about growing the sport, getting them comfortable with a golf club, having a good time and getting physically active,” McDonald said.

The free clinic were made possible thanks to support from local businesses who adopted the club’s sponsorship initiative.

“At our golf course we have a charity hole sponsorship program,” he said.

“Local businesses can sponsor a hole at the golf course, and with the funds raised the club offers free programming for the local community.

“This free program is a result of our community supporting our efforts to make golf more accessible for everyone.”

The club is looking forward to the clinics and hopes to see more golfers in future.

“We definitely hope to see more people playing golf,” the centre manager said.

“Golf is a sport that has been proven to improve the participants physical and mental health, so we want to see more people getting out on the fairways enjoying the sport, and looking after their wellbeing in the process.”
