A splash of colour and some new play equipment has generated a wave of excitement at Stevensville Primary School, St Albans.
The school was chosen by construction company Probuild for a makeover of its “calm garden” earlier this month.
In just two days the team completely transformed the space.
Project manager Kirk Thompson said with a clear theme in mind, the team went about making a calm space for the pupils to enjoy.
“The theme of the space is a sensory garden that’s pretty passive, but a nice place for students to hang out and relax. It’s meant to be an interactive garden,” Mr Thompson said.
“At the back we’ve got a mulched area with tyres, we’ve got a hopscotch, a path which passes through a blackboard station and a pergola with benches.
“All of the other space is also freshly turfed and there’s a lot of areas to sit and enjoy friends and socialise with each other.”
Stevensville Primary School assistant principal Julie LeGuen said the new space had become a big hit.
“The kids absolutely love it. I’ve already had some appoint themselves as playground supervisors and ask me to get them badges,” Ms LeGuen said.
“We’ve even had high school kids waiting to pick up their siblings playing in it, so it’s been great to see it being used and loved.
“It’s arranged in such a kid-friendly way and really promotes our concept of a calm garden.”
