The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has announced it will hold a community information session this month to provide locals with updates on the Sunshine landfill in Kealba, where underground fires have been burning for over six years.
The EPA said it would provide residents with information about its regulation of the site and remedial notices, how it monitors the odour around the landfill and how Barro Group, who own the site, is managing landfill hotspots.
The session will also cover the capping and cover on the landfill, court hearing dates and the environmental audit of the landfill which was recently carried out.
The EPA said its staff will share as much information as possible about the ongoing court case but said there may be some questions the EPA cannot answer due to ongoing legal matters.
The information session will take place on Tuesday, September 23, from 5-7pm, at Kealba Hall, 24 McShane Drive, Kealba.
Questions can be directed to contact@epa.vic.gov.au or 1300 372 842.
