Job fears over Masters decision

More than 200 employees across two Masters stores within Brimbank could lose their jobs after Woolworths announced today it may offload all their stores.

A Woolworths spokesperson said there were more than 100 employees at both the Caroline Springs and Braybrook stores.
The company said it was going to either sell or wind up its home improvement business, which includes Masters.

Woolworths Chairman Gordon Cairns said it was forced to make the hard decision as it would take “many years” for Masters to become profitable.

“We intend to pursue an orderly prospective sale or wind-up of the business,” he said.

He said the process will take at least two months to complete while a “potential sale process or other exit process will take additional time”.

Woolworths told News Limited it would look to find jobs for affected staff within the wider company if stores were closed.
