The upgrade of the busy Kings and Taylors roads intersection in Delahey has been completed.
Roads Minister Luke Donnellan, who officially opened the revamped intersection last week, said it was a major step to improving road safety in Brimbank.
“We’re investing in the roads that people rely on every day – upgrading one of Brimbank’s busiest intersections to get people home sooner and safer,” he said.
The roundabout at the intersection, which created congestion in peak hours, has been removed and replaced with traffic lights and a raised intersection to slow traffic.
The revamp also features bicycle lanes, a pedestrian crossing and upgraded footpaths designed to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Kororoit MP Marlene Kairouz said the upgrades would go a long way to improving safety at the notorious intersection.
“This intersection has a terrible crash history,” she said. “These improvements will significantly improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.”
Sydenham MP Natalie Hutchins, who was also on hand to help open the intersection, said she had already noticed the improved flow of traffic.
The intersection is one of Brimbank’s busiest with more than 35,000 vehicles travelling through it each day.
