Three inspiring and passionate Brimbank educators are in line for top gongs later this month.
The Victorian Education Excellence Awards are set for October 30.
Taylors Lakes Secondary College teacher Shingo Gibson-Suzuki’s passion for Japanese led to his nomination for the ‘outstanding primary teacher’ title.
Alex Artavilla, of Sunshine Heights Primary School, and Tony Simpson, of Copperfield College, have been nominated as ‘most outstanding’ primary and secondary principals.
Mr Gibson-Suzuki’s inspired use of social media “with a personalised approach”, along with weekly skype sessions and ‘flipped classrooms’, in which students work at their own pace, made his classes especially popular at the school.
A positive school culture has been Mr Artavilla’s goal at the Sunshine Heights school, leading to an ambitious mission and vision statement. During his tenure enrolments have also risen from 260 to a forecast of 400 next year.
Mr Simpson has reportedly “led by example” at Copperfield College, always striving to become a better principal.
He said his staff and students’ success was defined by his school’s value statement: “We achieve when we are responsible, respectful and value relationships”.
Individual category winners will receive up to $20,000 for professional development.
