Information session next week

The next Environmental Protection Authority will hold it’s next Kealba Landfill community meeting on February 23.

The regular meetings are for residents to discuss the odour issues in St Albans and Kealba and also learn about the EPA’s compliance and enforcement actions surrounding the site.

The EPA cancelled Barro Group’s licence to operate the Sunshine Landfill on February 1.

“EPA has a range of regulatory notices in place requiring Barro Group to manage ongoing risks at the site and extinguish remaining hotspots,” the EPA said in its latest community update.

“We continue to enforce these notices.

“On February 2 2023, we completed a technical inspection of the landfill to look at surface heat measurements as part of our regular air and odour monitoring. This inspection detected odour and slightly warm areas around hotspot 1, which was expected.”

The meeting is being held between 5pm-7pm at the Kealba Community Centre, 24 McShane Drive, Kealba.
