The first nine-car VLoctiy train took off from Wyndham Vale last Monday, May 30, giving passengers in Melbourne’s west more space on the train during morning peak.

The longer trains have the highest-capacity of any regional commuter train in the state and will boost capacity by 5- per cent on the busiest services on the V/Line network.

Plans are also in place for these nine-car VLocity trains to stop at Sunshine Station in future after the platforms are extended.

Three nine-car services will run each weekday, with one in the morning peak starting at Wyndham Vale, and two during the afternoon rush departing from Southern Cross.

The new trains will also provide more doors for boarding and reduce crowding in corridors during high usage times.

Transport Infrastructure minister Jacinta Allan said the trains would make the network more reliable.

“We are making more space on our trains to meet the needs of the growing communities in Melbourne’s southwest for years to come – increasing services, increasing capacity and ensuring a safer, more reliable network,” Ms Allan said.
