Improving Victorian boating

The state government is improving recreational boating experiences through a $42 million package to upgrade boating infrastructure across the state, including ramps, car parks, pontoons and jetties.

Funded from boaters’ registration and licence fees, the investment is part of the Victorian Recreational Boating Action Plan 2022-23.

Fishing and Boating Minister Sonya Kilkenny said the investment would also improve boating safety for boating families, including those in Brimbank.

“We’re upgrading boat ramps across the state to create more opportunities for families to enjoy the great outdoors by hitting the water,” she said.

Works also include upgrading access roads to make it easier to get out to boating spots.

“A further $3.45 million has been allocated across twenty-two locations to progress planning and approvals to facilitate future upgrades. This funding creates a vital pipeline of projects for consideration in future years,” the government said.

“The plan also invests $3.3 million to continue the Labor government’s promise to remove fees at public boat ramps, while $2 million will support managers of public boat ramps with maintenance of their facilities.

“In addition, the government will continue its Recreational Boating Access and Dredging Program with $1 million in dredging grants to support managers of public boat ramps to facilitate dredging works and deliver projects that provide better access to boat ramps.”
