Labor MP Natalie Hutchins will continue to serve the Sydenham electorate after being re-elected on Saturday.
Ms Hutchins, who served at the Keilor MP between 2010 and 2014 and then Sydenham since, was one of a number of western suburbs Labor MPs to suffer swings against them.
It wasn’t enough with Hutchins still easily being re-elected ahead of the Liberal party’s Joseph Cullia.
After 72.5 per cent of the votes have been counted, Ms Hutchins had received 43.9 per cent of the first preference votes, a swing of -17.3 per cent.
Mr Cullia had 29.6 per cent of the first preference votes, only up 1.4 per cent on the Liberal Party vote last time.
On two-party preferred, Hutchins leads 58.3 per cent to 41.7 per cent, a swing of 9.4 per cent.
The electorate takes in Keilor North, Calder Park, Taylors Lakes, Sydenham, Taylors Hill, Delahey and Fraser Rise.
Ms Hutchins said on social media on Saturday night that it takes a whole team to achieve victory.
“Thank you to my incredible volunteers, family and of course the wonderful Sydenham community for electing me as your representative in parliament.”
