Keilor residents are getting acquainted with their new-look community hub after its opening at the start of the month.
The new centre – at the old municipal offices, which had been closed since July 2016 – reopened on April 3, giving locals a new customer service centre, a new Keilor library, neighbourhood house programs, arts spaces and community meeting rooms.
Brimbank mayor John Hedditch said the hub would become a key asset in the Keilor community.
“For some time now, the Keilor community has been watching the transformation of the former Keilor municipal office building, and we’re happy to say work is now complete,” Mr Hedditch said.
“We are confident the community will be pleased with what’s been done with the space.
“The new Keilor library is more than double the size compared to [the old library at] Kennedy Street, and will offer customers access to a more contemporary library with improved facilities.
“We are also pleased to re-open council’s Keilor customer service centre, where customer support staff will once again be available to respond to general inquiries and receive payments.”
Neighbourhood house programs will be run sporadically through the Keilor hub, and will also be run at the nearby Sydenham Neighbourhood House.
Pop-up programs will operate from the hub initially to give locals the chance to sample popular programs from other centres.
The new Keilor library offers more than 12,000 items in its collection. New library features include self-service kiosks, two children’s touchscreen PCs, a dedicated IT training room with six PCs, a video games console, a dedicated library program room, and more seating for reading, study and socialising.
Brimbank councillors will be holding a series of drop-in sessions at the hub on Wednesdays throughout the school term.
The first session will be on April 19, from 10am until noon.
