Homer Simpson may be the world’s biggest doughnut fan, but a Taylors Lakes store did its best last week to spread the word on the sweet snack.
As part of International Doughnut Day on June 1, Honey Dee Loukoumades in Watergardens gave away free shot glasses of mini doughnuts as part of a pop-up store, putting their own twist on the culinary delight.
Owner Bill Moragiannis said doughnuts were always popular.
“We’ve done events similar to this before and we’ve served over 300 people in the first hour,” Mr Moragiannis said.
“International Doughnut Day is a chance for a bit of fun, so I think it will be a big hit.
“We do Greek doughnuts, loukoumades, and this is a first for us doing the shots of doughnuts. Just a little snack as you wander around the food court.”
The Greek doughnut, or loukoumades, are a traditional Greek street food, often served with honey, walnuts and cinnamon.
International Doughnut Day is celebrated on the first Friday in June each year, with hundreds of events across Melbourne giving doughnut lovers a treat.
