Police are still hunting for the driver of a dark-coloured utility that struck a 29-year-old nurse and drove off.
Shanne Doktor-Naron, a nurse at Sunshine Hospital, had finished her shift and was crossing Furlong Road in North Sunshine about 9.50pm last Monday when she was struck.
She was transferred by ambulance to the major trauma centre at the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition where she was treated for a broken arm.
Ms Doktor-Naron’s husband Justin Naron told media his wife saw the car coming.
“The guy was revving hard, she saw him coming and stepped back a little, but still got hit,” he said.
“I’m mad, how could a heartless person do this to her? She is very kind, caring. I don’t know why people like that exist.”
Western Health acting executive director of operations Damian Gibney said the incident has left staff saddened.
“Shanne is a well-liked and respected member of the nursing team at Sunshine Hospital, and we’re saddened by what she and her family are going through,” Mr Gibney said.
Victoria Police Senior Constable Debra McFarlane labelled the incident “cowardly” and urged witnesses to come forward.
“It [the car] should have received quite an amount of damage to the left front passenger-side panel,” Senior Constable McFarlane said.
“We’ve got units out looking around for the vehicle, we’re trying to obtain as much CCTV footage as we can.
“This is a cowardly act, and we’re appealing for any witnesses that know anything about it to please contact CrimeStoppers,” she said.
