A 53-year-old Hillside man has been charged with the murder of his former wife, Teresa Mancuso, who was stabbed to death two years ago.
Fernando Manuel Paulino appeared briefly in the Melbourne Magistrates Court last Wednesday charged with murder following the 2013 death of
the 49-year-old mother-of-two in Reservoir.
Mr Paulino was remanded in custody and faced an out of session court hearing last Tuesday night after homicide squad detectives arrested him at a Taylors Road, Sydenham, address.
Ms Mancuso, also known as Teresa Paulino, divorced Mr Paulino in 1998 but continued an “on-off relationship” with him until about 2010, the court was told.
She had two sons with Mr Paulino, both now aged in their 20s.
Ms Mancuso’s body was found by a family member about 9.45pm on July 15, 2013, near the garage of the Massey Avenue, Reservoir, property she shared with her mother.
Detective Senior Sergeant Stuart Bailey, of the homicide squad, said the arrest might help bring closure for Ms Mancuso’s family.
The arrest came a week after what would have been Ms Mancuso’s 51st birthday.
Police will prepare a brief of evidence by August, ahead of Mr Paulino’s next court appearance on October 13.
