Belinda Sudano met Emma when the two began year 7 at an Essendon school.
The pair formed a close friendship, became confidants and enjoyed an active lifestyle.
However in 2011, Emma (25), died from acute myeloid leukaemia.
Since then Ms Sudano has tirelessly raised money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
“I needed a way to channel my grief into something productive and through this we’ve raised about $60,000,” Ms Sudano said.
Ms Sudano has hosted six gala dinner events, but this year she’s trying something different.
“We’re doing a four-day hiking challenge in Tasmania where we’ll summit Cradle Mountain,” she said.
“Emma, the whole reason I’m doing this, was quite an active person so it makes sense to channel things we liked to do together into fundraising activities.
“It’s feel-good adventures.”
While it might sound like a significant undertaking, Ms Sudano said it would be a relaxed adventure.
“It’s a four-day challenge, but I don’t want people to freak out,” she said.
“The first day is getting used to Tassie and the last day is to celebrate the adventure, so it’s the two days in between where we’ll hike and explore Cradle Mountain.”
Ms Sudano would like at least eight people to join her on the adventure.
“All the food and accommodation is included in the package,” she said.
