Brimbank may have unearthed the Steve Irwin of the next generation, in selfless six-year-old Isaac Busuttil.
The Derrimut boy, who has been a passionate wildlife protector since the age of four, recently won the Visionary Wildlife Warrior award.
Handed out to passionate conservationists aged between five and 17 at the Steve Irwin Gala in Brisbane on November 21, the award recognised Isaac’s efforts in raising awareness about endangered wildlife, and almost $1500, at three events.
The tally included $730 for the Sumatran tigers by selling home-grown vegetables, biscuits and hosting a barbecue; asking his friends to donate money to raise awareness of the endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoot, instead of giving him presents for his birthday, which added $482 to the booty; and $234 was raised through a car boot sale to aid the Southern Corroboree Frog.
Proud mum Ingrid said young Isaac was also doing his bit at school.
“He repeatedly tells me about his attempts to stop fellow students from killing insects within the schoolyard,” she said.
