Henry, Mary and love

All My Love examines the relationship between Mary Gilmore and Henry Lawson.

An accidental discovery has provided the catalyst for a stage production that examines the relationship between Henry Lawson and Mary Gilmore.

While researching Henry Lawson’s life for another project, writer Anne Brooksbank came across some little-known facts about his relationship with fellow poet Gilmore.

Brooksbank was granted access to Henry Lawson and I, a 30-page memoir written by Gilmore that includes claims there was an affair, or a betrothal or the promise of a betrothal, between her and Lawson in the years before she left for South America.

Based on that discovery, Brooksbank created All My Love, which will be performed at the Bowery Theatre on Saturday, April 21.

After strong reviews for earlier performances, Kim Denman, who plays Gilmore, said she was excited to be sharing the story in Brimbank.

“We’ve had incredible reaction to the show so far,” she said. “People know a lot about Henry Lawson, but not as much about the friendship and bond he formed with Mary, so it’s great to be able to share that.”

The show previously toured in 2015 and 2016, with Denman saying it was exciting to return to the role

“The first time I read the script, it moved me to tears,” she said. “It’s a fantastic story of love and friendship, regardless of historical impact.”
