Hendry Street property sells for $1.16m

A Sunshine West property has sold for nearly $1.2 million, in what could be a record for the suburb.

The property at 13 Hendry Street, Sunshine West, sold at auction on May 14 for $1.16 million, with a local family winning the bidding war.

Douglas Kay Real Estate senior sales executive Nick Christopoulos said while he was unsure if it was a record for the suburb, the high price was warranted.

“It was an exceptionally unique property, a big property with a lot to offer so we weren’t surprised to see it sell for so much,” Mr Christopoulos said. “We had a big turnout for the auction, probably 30 people, and in the end it was a local young family who won out.

“We’re not sure if it’s a record, but for a brick house it may be. It’s certainly up there.”

The seven bedroom house is the latest in a number of million-dollar sales in the Sunshine area in the past 12 months, with buyers looking for value in new areas.

“We’ve seen a number of million-plus sales in central Sunshine and Sunshine North, and it’s slowly moving out to Sunshine West as well,” Mr Christopoulos said.

“But the property has to be something special, it’s not an every day occurrence to get a sale like this.

“There’s some beautiful properties out there that would sell for over a million, but they’re not on the market yet.”
