Melton council is inviting residents to have their say on the future of Lake Caroline.

The Lake Caroline draft masterplan and activation strategy will guide how council develops and activates the reserve and its surroundings.

Initial stages of the draft strategy involved detailed site assessment, community consultation and background analysis.

Melton council said both the lake and reserve are 20 years old, and many facilities are due for upgrades in coming years.

More than 500 responses submissions were received during community and stakeholder consultation undertaken in 2023.

Top suggestions included markets, seasonal celebrations and festivals, floating cafes, and rentable boats.

Facilities outlined as part of the draft plan include a mid-lake crossing, dedicated event lawn, playspace upgrade, a shared zone along Lake Street for markets and festivals, and new viewing platforms.

Melton deputy mayor Steve Abboushi said he encourages everyone to have their say on the future of this “important community asset.”

“Lake Caroline is a beautiful outdoor site, popular with residents of all ages and backgrounds. This strategy will guide the future development and activation of the lake and its surrounds,” Cr Abboushi said.

The draft strategy was endorsed for public consultation at the March council meeting and will be open for comment from April 19, to May 6.
