Brimbank residents have until the end of the month to have their say on plans to upgrade one of the city’s flagship parks, the Kevin Flint Memorial Reserve, in Cairnlea.
The reserve, in 142A Furlong Road, is considered one of Brimbank’s seven flagship parks and is set within a lake. It includes large open grassed areas and significant mature trees, sporting ovals, pavilions and a fenced off-leash dog park which opened last November.
The existing park and playground facilities also include a pathway and stair network, playgrounds, picnic facilities and two shelters.
Developed in 2007, some of the park’s facilities are considered outdated and in need of improvements or replacement with the council’s proposed upgrade aimed at creating a multi-functional park for wide appeal.
The proposed plans include playground improvements to cater to a range of ages and abilities, car parking and public toilets made more accessible, as well as upgrades to existing shelters, barbecue facilities and paths.
Kevin Flint Memorial Reserve is one of seven parks classified as a flagship park in Brimbank Council’s Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan 2021/2022.
