Have a say on animal plan

Brimbank council is calling on locals to give their feedback on animal-related issues to help shape the Domestic Animal Management Plan for 2026-2029.

The plan, which Victorian councils are required to renew every four years, will outline the programs, services and strategies for animal management in the municipality.

This includes the management of cats and dogs, and approaches to improve community safety as well as strategies to reduce the impact of nuisance behaviours on the community and environment.

Locals’ feedback will help council make informed decisions about how time and resources will be allocated to better support pet owners and manage domestic animals.

In 2024, Brimbank was home to 6726 registered dogs and 3071 registered cats.

Residents made 319 nuisance complaints about stray and owned cats, mostly related to trespass and disturbance.

In the same year 143 complaints were made about dogs with the most common issues being loud barking and disruption.

A draft plan will be made available for feedback in September which will then be presented to council for adoption in December this year.

Residents can provide feedback via a short survey at yoursay.brimbank.vic.gov.au or email suggestions to info@brimbank.vic.gov.au.

Feedback can be provided until Tuesday, July 8.
