After two years of hard work, lockdowns and changes to the business, AB Health & Fitness in Keilor Park has been recognised.

The business was recently named the health and fitness award at the BX Business xCellence awards.

Director Brendan Daynes said it was pretty special to win this award.

“We were shortlisted for a second straight year,” he said.

“It was run online and there were people from other states. In our category there were a couple of other people who were gym owners and personal trainers.

“After everything we have gone through, it’s nice to be recognised.”

Mr Daynes said awards looked at growth of the business and what they had done in the last 12 months.

He said while they hadn’t grown their client numbers they had grown in other ways.

“It was about how we adapted and kept the community going,” he said.

“We hadn’t grown in number or revenue, but we had grown in the way that we run the business.

“We ran 35 fitness classes a week from their living rooms. We were able to maintain our community.”

Mr Daynes said since returning to the studio, there had been really good numbers. The gym is also keeping some of things they’ve learned during lockdown.

“We now have a hybrid model,” he said.

“People are really happy as they have the best of both worlds. There’s something for everyone. “
